Occupational HealthMarch 7, 2017

You’ve already met two members of Mercer Health’s Wellness & Occupational Health Team, and we’re excited to introduce two more. Get to know Bev and Dr. Hosbach below!

Meet Dr. Ed Hosbach

Why is Occupational Health important to you?

We help safeguard a company’s most valuable asset: its people. Occupational Health interests me, because I have to take into account the health problem and the impact of a patient’s job. It’s also a prime place to think about prevention.

Tell us a little bit about your typical day.

Since I help part-time, my day is mostly physicals with some injury work. Just like a Family Practice, there’s always variety in what the day brings.

What is the best part of your job?

I like when I can solve a problem by a good history and physical exam with very little testing, then provide a personalized solution. That’s a win for both the patient and the company.

What has been your greatest career accomplishment?

It’s more privilege than accomplishment, but being a high school team physician over the years has been great fun. I’ve tagged along with some great teams and taken care of fantastic kids.

What do you enjoy doing for fun outside of work?

I like to catch family events. In the summer, I golf when I can. And I try to read non-medical things.

Meet Bev Uhlenhake, Certified Nurse Practitioner

Why is Occupational Health important to you?

Occupational Health is important because it helps promote and maintain the physical and mental well-being of workers, while reducing risk and injuries in the workplace.

Tell us a little bit about your typical day.

It’s very busy! I practice Family Medicine in the morning and Occupational Health in the afternoon.

What is the best part of your job?

Meeting patients and learning about their jobs, along with seeing how I can help them maintain healthy lifestyles.

What has been your greatest career accomplishment?

Being certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I was the first Nurse Practitioner to be dual certified at Wright State University!

What do you enjoy doing for fun outside of work?

I am an avid Major League Baseball fan. During the off season, I enjoy watching Buckeye football games!
