The West Central Ohio Regional Healthcare Alliance, Ltd., or WCORHA, is a network of community hospitals working together to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare services.
Established in 1995, WCORHA is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. As an Ohio Limited Liability Company (LLC), each member hospital has one equal vote, and is represented on the Board by the member’s Chief Executive Officer. Additionally, each member has the ability to choose in which WCORHA initiatives they will/will not participate.
WCORHA’s past initiatives have included the development of New Vision Laboratory (a ‘laboratory without walls’, that provides service to several member hospitals), and the construction of the Grand Lake Regional Cancer Center, where patients can receive radiation therapy in their local community, rather than travel to Columbus or elsewhere. Member hospitals can also participate in the Premier Group Purchasing Organization, and obtain substantial savings in their supply chain. Regional contracting is another area where the buying power of the Alliance can be leveraged to obtain savings in areas such as Biomedical Services, Elevator Maintenance, Radiation Safety, etc.
WCORHA’s success over the past 20 years is due to a willingness of the member organizations to work together to find opportunities to collaborate. Examples include sharing a Nuclear Medicine employee within the consortium, operating a consolidated Occupational Health program, seeking grant funding, or simply sharing information about healthcare’s current challenges. A number of Advisory Teams provide the working format for this collaboration, in areas such as Radiology, Materials Management, Pharmacy, Patient Experience, Quality & Clinical Excellence, and Leadership Education.
